Tim Mercer is a former member of Police Special Operations Branch in Northern Ireland where he served during the period called the Troubles. This was effectively a civil war between terrorists from the Protestant community and terrorists from the Catholic community who fought each other and attacked the Security Forces for 30 years. This period caused the deaths of nearly four thousand people and tens of thousands injured. This was also the crucible for surveillance in a non-permissive environment were sections of communities were hostile to security forces. Tim served in a unit called E4a, now C4a, the counterpart of the British Army's 14 Intelligence Company, now the Special Reconnaissance Regiment. Tim was trained by British MI5 and UK Special Forces and became an on the ground team leader and an instructor. Tim was involved in a multitude of complex counter-terrorism operations resulting the capture of many terrorists and the thwarting of assassinations, kidnapping and bombings. He worked alongside the SAS and MI5. Since leaving Tim has continued to carry out surveillance tasks mostly for Investigative Journalists making documentaries exposing criminals and terrorists, but also for Corporate Security Companies. He has spent quite a bit of time in Paris, France last year and this year on one such task, involving foot & mobile surveillance, covert photography, tracking and the flying of a drone. Tim has completed surveillance training for USA Green Berets and Navy SEALS, Canadian JTF2 and Special Operations Regiment, Polish JWK, Indonesia KPK and British Government Agencies including many others in both the private and public sector.
